OK, you can be forgiven for squinting at the photos and trying to figure out what this one is. Chevelle? GTO? Well, it's both and neither, and is actually a 1965 Acadian Beaumont, a special car cooked up by GM of Canada for our friends up north. In truth, it's one of the nastiest mid-sized pieces of muscle you're likely to see, packing an L79 small block and a 4-speed gearbox, making it one of only 23 built and perhaps one of only six that still remain. Rare? You ain't seen nothin' yet.

The shape is certainly familiar, and if you're a Malibu/Chevelle fan you'd be able to spot this car across the show field. But with Canada being its own market, GM did a few things differently, including ditching the familiar brand names altogether, and pasted Acadian Beaumont badges all over the thing. Fortunately, the sheetmetal was nice and straight and the restoration brought it to its current spectacular condition before cloaking it in special white pearl paint that gives it a stealthy yet high-quality look. As you'd expect, gaps are excellent all around, and all the unique pieces of trim, ranging from the special Pontiac-esque grille up front to the gills on the quarter panels, have been restored. And anything that was missing, well, you can imagine what a nightmare it was to locate, restore, and reinstall on such a rare car. It was definitely worth it.

It also received a gorgeous red bucket seat interior, and the diagonal stitching in the seat covers is very much in the Pontiac vein. There's also a shiny center console with a Hurst shifter, complete with cue ball knob, and a unique steering wheel that might just be made of unobtainium. The original gauge cluster is basic but includes a clock to add a bit of elegance, but an enterprising enthusiast has added the requisite auxiliary gauges under the dash, which are critical for keeping an eye on the high-winding small block up front. The original AM radio remains in the dash as well, but they've cleverly added an AM/FM/CD stereo head unit in its own housing underneath, plus a rare accessory tissue box on the passenger's side. The trunk is basic, with spatter-finish paint, a full-sized spare, and a simple mat, but that's entirely the point.

The engine is one of only 23 L79s stuffed into the Beaumonts in 1965. The L79 is legendary, and in this car it cackles and snarls like a full-race piece, yet is happy to run on the street. Lots of chrome meant that GM of Canada knew their Acadian would be special, and there haven't been any major deviations from stock. It's backed by a 4-speed manual gearbox and a 10-bolt rear with a Posi inside, which was probably mandatory with the L79. It looks highly original underneath, which only goes to show you how solid this car really is, and there are no hidden surprises waiting for the new owner. A fresh exhaust system and chrome Cragars were added recently, and it wears 215/75/14 redline radials for a period-perfect look.

Documented with the original owner's manual and featured in Muscle Car Enthusiast magazine, this is the perfect car for the guy who has already owned everything else. Call today!
